Please read the following passage and answer questions 31-37
FINDING THE LOST FREEDOM
The private automobile is assumed to have widened our horizons and increased our mobility. When we think about how our children get around, they can be driven to more places (and places farther away) than they could visit without access to a car or other vehicle. However, allowing our cities to be overrun by cars has continuously destroyed our children’s independent mobility. They have lost much of their freedom and desire to explore their local areas or city without adult delivering them somewhere. In recent studies, when parents in selected cities were asked about their own childhood experiences, most remembered having more opportunities for going out on their own, in comparison with their own children today. They had much more freedom to explore their own environment.
A child’s independence to walk around and explore local streets may be important for their own personal, intellectual and psychological development. Permitting them to get to know their neighbourhood and city gives them a sense of ownership and belonging. This, of course, depends on ‘active exploration’, which cannot be given when children are driven around in cars. They forfeit gaining an intimate knowledge of their environment (These children may see more, but they learn less.) Not only is it vital that children be able to get to local parks and schools by themselves, but walking and cycling journeys to school and to other destinations also provide play activities in themselves.
There are also very considerable time and money costs for parents who transport their children to school, sport, cinema and to other locations. An investigation in the United Kingdom calculated that this cost, in 1990, was between £10 billion and £20 billion. Allowing children to develop a relationship with their surroundings reduces costs that can be better spent elsewhere.

N.B. Tipi di esame IELTS
L’ esame IELTS prevede due diverse versioni:
Academic: è la versione adatta a chi ha intenzione di frequentare un’università in un paese anglofono. Prevede prove più complesse per le prove di Reading (lettura) e Writing (scrittura), in quanto si deve dimostrare la propria conoscenza di un linguaggio accademico adatto allo studio a livello universitario;
